Rank Tracker Update – Free Plans & Pricing Revealed

Share Button

I’m really glad to be able to share with you some more information about the new Rank Tracker service.

This blog post contains a lot of information, but I wanted to answer as many of your questions as possible about our new service. In particular this blog post will cover:

  1. A recap on the current status of the Rank Tracker module.
  2. A status update of the progress of the new Rank Tracker service.
  3. What’s different about the new Rank Tracking service?
  4. Details of our FREE keyword tracking plan – based on our usage data I’m pleased to announce our free offering will satisfy the needs of over 92% of our users.
  5. Details of our pricing plans – and how you can get access to a 50% discount.
  6. How our new Rank Tracker service is different to other services on the market.

There’s a lot to cover, so let’s get started.

1. Rank Tracker is currently working and functional in Market Samurai

It’s important to reiterate that the current Rank Tracker module is currently working and functional.

After the Google change our first priority was to restore core functionality as quickly as possible. Rapidly, over a period of several days we released updates which restored functionality to all our core modules.

Most importantly, Rank Tracker IS currently working. The large majority of our users monitor fewer than 50 keywords and our service should be running smoothly for these users.

If you’re checking a large number of keywords (100+) you may be asked to complete a captcha to continue pulling back ranking data, but you can still fetch the full set of keyword data.

2. What progress has been made on the new Rank Tracker service, and when will it to be ready to use?

Since restoring full functionality to Market Samurai we’ve been tirelessly working to bring you the new “cloud” version of our Rank Tracking service.

Here’s a quick update on how we’re going:

  • We’ve already made significant progress building the back-end infrastructure and services to deliver the new Rank Tracking service.
  • We’ve spoken to over a dozen rank tracking data providers and negotiated a great deal on your behalf to be able to reliably handle the demands of our user-base – at over 200 million ranking checks per month, this is a significant load for many of the providers that we’ve spoken to!
  • We’ve designed an easy-to-use interface for quickly and easily migrating your existing Rank Tracker information to the cloud and for managing your online campaigns.

So when will this be ready for you to use?

While we have made significant progress so far, our current best estimate is that we’ll be in a position for a large beta test in approximately 2–3 weeks’ time, with a public launch about 2 weeks following that.  This will give our beta testers a chance to get a few weeks of ranking reports through, to flush out any problems before we make it available to everybody.

I realise that this is longer than we originally estimated, but I think you’ll agree that it’s more important to make sure that the new version is as reliable and stable as possible, and that involves a few more weeks than we originally estimated.

Please rest assured that this is our #1 priority, and every available resource at Noble Samurai is working to bring you the new Rank Tracking service as quickly as possible.

Once again, the existing Rank Tracker module is currently working and will be able to serve the majority of our users’ ranking requirements until we’re in a position to roll out our new service.

3. So what’s different about the new Rank Tracking Service?

If you’ve used Rank Tracker you’ll quickly realize its main drawback – it’s slow! It’s a problem that the current Rank Tracker module shares with all desktop rank checking software.

If you’re serious about checking your rankings, you have to fire up the software each week, click the “Update Rankings” button, and then wait up to half an hour or more before all your rankings data has updated! And the more keywords that you are tracking, the slower it becomes!

And that’s for each Rank Tracker data file that you have. Many of our users have multiple sites or clients that they need to check the rankings for, and each of these in a different project file. If you have 3 or 4 files, the whole process can take several hours to complete, which is not ideal.

The new Rank Tracking service is very different. Instead of having to check your keywords yourself, we’ll check the keywords on your behalf automatically, and send you an email each week when your keyword rankings are ready.

Here’s how it will work:

  1. First, upload your existing Rank Tracking files to the Noble Samurai “cloud” servers, where your ranking data will be stored.

  2. Then, choose which keywords you want to monitor on a weekly basis. You also nominate which day of the week you’d like your ranking checks updated.

  3. Once a week, our “cloud” servers will check your rankings on your behalf (you don’t even need your computer to be turned on! Everything happens automatically on our servers).

  4. When your rankings have been checked and your ranking reports complete, we’ll send you an email notification to let you know.

  5. You can then open Rank Tracker, and instantly view your ranking data.

Because we do all the heavy lifting from our “cloud” servers, you spend less time waiting for results, and can spend more time interpreting your data!

4. What are the details of the FREE Rank Tracking plan for existing Market Samurai owners?

Our big hope was that we would be able to offer a FREE rank tracking plan for existing owners of both Market Samurai and Article Samurai.

We’ve spent the past few weeks analysing the usage patterns of our current customers, and also aggressively negotiating with ranking data providers to understand:

  1. If a FREE plan is economically possible at all; and
  2. What a FREE plan would include for our existing users.

The good news is that we will be able to offer a great FREE plan for all current owners of our products.

In an analysis of our ranking usage data over the past year, we uncovered the following usage pattern for our current customer base:

92% track less than 50 keywords
7% track between 51-500 keywords
1% track over 500 keywords

Our goal was to provide a FREE plan that would ensure that as many of our customers as possible would be completely unaffected by the Rank Tracker changes.

I’m happy to announce that ALL existing customers of Market Samurai and Article Samurai will be eligible for a free 50 Keyword plan.

That means that over 92% of our customers will get the benefit of the improved Rank Tracking service (where we look up your rankings for you automatically each week), and won’t have to pay a penny for it!

There are some important things to note:

1. While the free plan will be free to you, it is NOT free to us - We will be paying thousands of dollars each month, on your behalf, to underwrite these free plans. We’ve set the freeline at a level that should satisfy the vast majority of users (over 92%), while setting the amount of cash that we need to outlay each month for our customers to a sustainable level.

Rest assured, this won’t bankrupt us, but it’s important to share that as we’ll be footing the bill for these FREE accounts, we had to draw the line somewhere, and a 50 keyword plan strikes a balance of meeting the vast majority of user’s needs, as well as managing our ongoing costs.

2. This offer will ONLY be available for existing Market Samurai (and Article Samurai) owners, or anyone who purchases Market Samurai before April 30th May 31st 2012 - As our existing customers and trial users are those who will be most affected by the changes, this offer will only be available to the existing ownership base – anyone that has a full version of Market Samurai or Article Samurai, as well as any current trial user who upgrades to the full version before April 30th May 31st 2012.

3. After the 30th of April 31st 2012 of May, the FREE plan for any NEW customers of Market Samurai will drop to 10 keywords per month - As there is a substantial ongoing cost in providing these FREE plans the 50 keyword free plan is only available to existing owners (and anyone who upgrades to the full version before April 30th May 31st 2012).

With almost 60,000 customers, you can start to understand why providing this FREE plan will cost us thousands of dollars per month.

That’s why we can only make this offer available to existing customers. Future customers will be limited to a 10 keyword / month plan.

4. This FREE 50 keyword plan is equivalent to PAID plans that cost up to $22.50 a month - We’ve done a thorough analysis of the competition in the rank tracking service space. Most rank tracking services fail to provide a FREE plan at all, and have a minimum entry price of $29 to $49 a month just to sign up. This being the case, the actual value to you for a comparable 50 keyword plan is anywhere between $5 to $22.50 per month.

Only existing customers, and those who purchase the full version of Market Samurai before April 30th May 31st 2012, will be entitled to this free 50 keyword plan – which provides up to $22.50 per month of keyword ranking checks, for FREE.

5. Details of our pricing plans

Our ranking usage data analysis shows that our 50 keyword plan will be more than adequate for over 92% of our customers.

However, if you’re one of those who are in the 8% of users who track more than 50 keywords, then we want to make sure that we look after you too.

Before I reveal what the pricing plans are, it’s important to review the competition and see what the cheapest available options are on the market to track more than 50 keywords on a weekly basis:

So, if you need to track more than 50 keywords then the cheapest plan from competing services begins at $19 / month, and you can pay as much as $99 / month!

While this might seem like a lot, there are good reasons for the price. There are hard costs to providing an infrastructure to check large numbers of keywords.

When doing our analysis and pricing model we have two definite advantages over our competitors:

  • Most competitor pricing is targeted at SEO agencies – companies with deep pockets. Agencies often charge hundreds or thousands of dollars to their own clients every month, and can therefore afford to pay substantial amounts each month to get their keyword rankings updated for them.

Agencies manage multiple clients – needing to track hundreds or thousands of keywords each month. The pricing structure of the plans currently offered in the marketplace reflects this need. Unfortunately, this puts it beyond the reach of many small online business owners, particularly if they only need to track a few hundred keywords.

  • Most of our competitors serve a relatively small client base of SEO Agencies - and so are unable to spread their infrastructure costs across tens of thousands of users as we are.

We know who our customers are, and they are very different from the SEO agencies! While we do have some agencies and SEO consultants using our software, most of our users are small online business owners who don’t have hundreds of dollars per month to spend on tracking their rankings.

We’ve taken this need into consideration when coming up with our own Rank Tracking plans.

To ensure that existing customers get the best deal possible, we’re offering two sets of plans:

  1. Plans for our existing customers (or new customers who purchase before April 30th May 31st 2012).
  2. Plans for new customers who purchase after April 30th May 31st 2012.

Here’s a list of what our plans will be for Noble Samurai’s Rank Tracking service:

So, if you’re an existing customer with 100 keywords, you can track your rankings for only $5 per month. That’s only $0.05 per keyword - less than a quarter of most of our competitors’ offerings!

For all existing customers (and for anyone who upgrades to the full version of Market Samurai before April 30th May 31st 2012), you’ll get access to all our retail plans, but at a 50% Half-Price Discount!

If you study the plans above, you’ll see that even our future retail plans (which kick in only for new customers who purchase after April 30th May 31st 2012) have a price per keyword less than half of most of our competitor’s offering. To get the same price per keyword from competing services, you’d need to spend at least $99 per month!

We’d love to be able to offer FREE ongoing Rank Tracking to all our affected users, however, for reasons I’ve already covered, economically this is just not possible.

Our 50 keyword FREE plan, which meets the needs of over 92% of our customers, will cost us thousands of dollars each month to cover.

If you’re one of the handful who tracks over 50 keywords (and you’re an existing customer), we are able to give you special pricing – less than a quarter of the price of our competitors.

Anyone who purchases our product after April 30th May 31st 2012 will be able to choose from our retail plans, which are still great value – at less than half the price of most of our competitors.

All the Rank Tracker plans provide weekly reports. How will this work, and why aren’t we able to provide more frequent updates?

With just a few exceptions, the majority of our competitors provide only weekly ranking updates, and for good reasons:

  1. If you do regularly monitor rankings you’ll notice daily fluctuations in your results. This daily “noise” distorts the real picture of what is happening to your rankings.

The vast majority of SEO professionals check their rankings on a weekly or fortnightly basis. It is generally accepted among SEO circles that checking rankings more often than this provides little value. It’s the equivalent of monitoring the stock price of your shares on a minute by minute basis. It’s too granular to provide any meaningful or actionable trends.

  2. There is a real, tangible hard cost to providing large volumes of keyword rankings. There is a significant infrastructure that needs to be built to look up millions of keywords per month. Providing weekly rankings means four checks per month per keyword. Providing daily rankings involves seven times as many keyword lookups, which translates directly into seven times the cost. Services that provide daily rankings are significantly more expensive per keyword to track – and rightly so!

In the interests of keeping keyword rankings as accessible and as affordable as possible to our customers, we have opted to initially provide only weekly ranking reports. If there is sufficient demand we may introduce daily rankings, but these plans will naturally be much more expensive to provide.

6. What’s unique about our Rank Tracker service? How does it compare with the competition?

If you haven’t really used the Rank Tracker module before, or haven’t checked it out for awhile, here’s a quick recap about some of its unique features beyond being just a quarter of the price of the competition.

They say that “feedback is the breakfast of champions”, and from the beginning Rank Tracker was designed to provide rapid feedback about the “effects” of your SEO link-building work and SEO strategy.

  1. Rank Tracker not only checks your ranking in the 3 major search engines, but also reports the number of links that are pointing to each of your ranking pages - Typically, as your link-building work increases, you’ll see an increase in the number of links, followed by an increase in your rankings. It’s a leading indicator to rankings, and only Noble Samurai’s Rank Tracker offers this feature. (SEO professionals love this feature – because it provides evidence of all the hard link-building work you’ve been doing)

  2. Rank Tracker shows you the rankings for EVERY SINGLE WEB PAGE THAT YOU CONTROL - It’s common in modern SEO to use multiple domains to rank for keywords. Most other Rank Tracking services can only track one domain, and only tells you the highest ranking you hold. We allow you to track any number of domains, as well as special URLs like YouTube videos. We show you all the rankings you hold in the top 100 results, not just the highest one.

  3. Rank Tracker allows you to track unlimited domains for a single keyword - Most other rank tracking solutions on the market charge their customers based on a concept called “keyword pairs”. If you wish to track your keyword rankings on a keyword for 5 different domains, you’d have to enter that keyword in 5 times, eating into your monthly quota. In Rank Tracker, that will count as only a single keyword – so your Keyword quota goes a lot further.

  4. Rank Tracker allows you to track the rankings on Web 2.0 sites (such as YouTube and Squidoo), that you control, but don’t own! - Many solutions on the market limit you to only tracking pages on a single domain, or force you to track each Web 2.0 site as another “keyword pair”, eating into your limited keyword quota. As you know, YouTube and Web 2.0 sites often comprise a critical part of modern SEO. Only Rank Tracker allows you to add as many Web 2.0 web pages as you like – while only using up a single keyword of your weekly quota.

  5. Rank Tracker supports the full range of search engine language and country combinations - Speaking to many rank tracking data providers we realized that very few support the full range of Language and Country combinations available in Google and the major search engines. Market Samurai has become very popular for non-US, non-English speaking customers because we’ve worked very hard to support right-to-left languages such as Hebrew, and “Unicode” languages such as Japanese and Chinese. The data provider we’ve chosen is one of the few who is able to provide the full range of Language / Country combinations.

  6. Rank Tracker manages the issues of Google “localization” and “personalization” - Google often serves up different ranking pages based on where you’re situated. Google also personalizes your search results based on the sites that you frequently visit. This “localization” and “personalization” behaviour can make it very challenging to get an objective set of general search results as a benchmark for your SEO activities.

As a result, you often see very different results searching Google from your own web-browser than what a rank tracking service reports. The ranking data provider we’ve chosen does an excellent job of removing such biases from the results.

Summary

Phew! That’s a lot of information to digest! Here’s a quick recap if you’re short of time:

  1. If you’re an existing Market Samurai (or Article Samurai) customer you’ll get access to a FREE 50 keyword Rank Tracker plan – which our usage data shows will be suitable for over 92% of our customers.

  2. If you’re part of the handful of customers who need to track more than 50 keywords you’ll be able to get access to special plans which are less than a quarter of the price of most of our competition.

  3. We’re working really hard to get the new Rank Tracking service out to you as quickly as possible. We hope to have a version to Beta test in the next two to three weeks. We’ll send an email with the details of how to sign up to the Beta when it’s ready.

A big thanks once again to the incredible support and encouragement we’ve been receiving from our customers!

  1. I’m happy to have a paid keyword plan (Similar i guess to using Raven Tools). MS is our #1 research tool and it’s nicer to have everything in the one place.

For an agency, where we may want to track clients keywords and provide reporting, do you intend to provide white label reporting for agencies?

    On
    Eugene Ware replied:

    Hi Steve,

Thanks for your question. In future versions we’re going to add in PDF email reports on a campaign basis, and for higher keyword plans the ability to whitelabel the PDF reports and email them directly to your clients.

    Warm Regards,

    Eugene

  2. Hey Eugene,

Thanks for the very thorough and detailed follow up.

I’ve often said, in this blog no less, than Market Samurai should be a paid product, and finally it looks like you are getting your just desserts from all your efforts.

One quick question: In your post, you didn’t mention who is your secret sauce data provider?

Any particular reason? Are you ever going to reveal the name? I would like to be able to do my own diligence and know who this trusted source is for comparison sake.

Either way, I hate what Google has done to you guys and others in your shoes, but your product is fantastic and I am extremely happy to see you’ll be in business for a long time to come.

    Hi Chris,

    Thanks for your question.

We’ve negotiated an agreement with Authority Labs which also power tools such as the excellent Raven Tools.

We spoke to over a dozen data providers all over the world.

We evaluated them based on a combination of reliability, quality, internal systems to deal with changes, how they deal with localization, and their ability to scale to support the volume of ranking checks that our customers need.

Suffice to say that we didn’t necessarily go with the cheapest provider.

There were actually about 18 or so criteria points that we used, but it all boils down the points I’ve mentioned above.

Thanks for your support and encouragement.

It hasn’t been easy these last few weeks! The awesome support from customers such as yourself has really helped us to push through!

  3. hi Eugene,

thanks for the detailed update but what happens to the existing local “slow” ranking check?
can we still continue using it, or is there only the cloud version in future?

    thanks
    Bruce

    On
    Eugene Ware replied:

    Hi Bruce,

    Thanks for your question.

With the new service we will not be supporting the existing functionality to use your own computer (or proxies) to look up rankings (ie. the “slow” ranking checks).

The reason is, that it costs a lot of time and money to keep up to date with the constant Google changes (format changes, universal changes, etc).

One of the core benefits with going to a third party data provider is that we can spend less time chasing Google, and put the savings towards subsidising both free users and keeping the special paid plans as affordable as possible.

Thus, we won’t be supporting the old system once the new service has been launched.

    I hope that makes sense.

    Warm Regards,

    Eugene

  4. I am an existing Market Samurai customer. I fall in the 8% category of customers who use more 50 keywords for checking the rankings.

I would like to get clarity on a couple of things:

    1. Will it be possible to Upgrade / Downgrade the Rank Tracker Plan as per our needs?

    2. Will there any limites to the number of domains that would be allowed to be added under the Plan Quota?

    Kindly advise.
    Thanks

    Hi Kalpana,

    Thanks for your question.

    1. Yes, you can upgrade and downgrade as much as you need (and if you get in before 30th April you’ll still get access to the special 50% pricing).

    2. No. You can add as many domains and URLs as you like.

    Hope that answers your question.

    Kalpana Rajagopalan replied:

    Hi Eugene,

    Thanks for your response.

    I have a feature request.

I saw this feature in another ranking software and I would love MS to have this feature.

You give the domain name as input to the system and it digs out all keywords (long tail & short tail) that rank for that domain including all inner pages.

To keep it manageable, you can limit the results returned to, say, all the keywords ranking at the Top 20 or Top 50.

Along with the ranking, it also returns the Exact Search Volume per month and the competition.

This funtionality would help in learning about all the keywords that a domain is ranking for and about which we currently may not be aware.

It will also help in fine tuning the website marketing efforts to all those keywords which have the potential to get lot of traffic due to high search volume / low competition and which we are already ranking, say, at the top 20 and which has the potential to reach the top.

    Thanks

    Hi
Can you add a little more clarification to Kalpana Rajagopalan Question?

Will it be possible to Upgrade / Downgrade the Rank Tracker Plan as per our needs?

Yes, you can upgrade and downgrade as much as you need (and if you get in before 30th April you’ll still get access to the special 50% pricing).

My Question: when you say “Get In” do you mean being an existing MS paid user and/or by purchasing MS before the 30th . Or do you mean being a paid subscriber to one of the new plans before the 30th.

    Thanks

  5. Great guys

I was wondering whether you’d be able to pull it off.

I have been looking at some providers as well, but I think you have a bit more pull than I :-)

    Thanks

    Eugene Ware replied:

    Hi Brian,

We definitely shopped around (we spoke to over 12 different data providers) and used the size of our customer base and volume to negotiate the best deal possible :-)

We also didn’t take the lowest price either. Quality and reliability and scalability were ultimately more important than just going with the lowest price per ranking check.

Definitely give the 50 free keyword plan a try and see how it works out for you. We’ve done a pretty thorough review of the competition, and have plans for some more features once we’ve got the first version into your hands.

I’d love to hear back from you Brian on how we measure up and if you have any ideas about how we can improve the service.

Right now the free plan will work for me. I’m hoping my needs will require more keyword tracking soon. If I read the notice correctly, then I should sign up before the April deadline to get the awesome pricing. Is that correcct?

    Hi Betty,

That’s correct – to get the special pricing you’ll need to sign up before April 30th.

    Cheers,

  6. Can you clarify the keyword limitation? So Market Samurai will keep track of the TOTAL keywords that I have across multiple projects? What happens if, let’s say, I have 25 keywords in project A and 25 keywords in project B today (assuming I use the free Rank Tracker), and later project A is abandoned and I add more keywords in project B. How will Market Samurai track that?

    On
    Eugene Ware replied:

    Hi Battra,

    Thanks for your question.

The keyword quota is across all projects. You create a Rank Tracker “campaign” which basically represents the keywords associated in a Samurai Project file.

In the example you mentioned, if you abandon project A, you would “pause” the campaign (so you can retain the historical data), and then those 25 keywords would be free to repurpose in other projects.

    Hope that answers your question.

    Thanks,

    Eugene

    On
    Battra replied:

    Hi Eugene,

Thanks for the clarification. Sounds good! One more question, can I pause individual keyword or it must be at campaign level?

I’m glad that you consider providing free level, that helps a lot! So thank you to all MS team!

    On
    Eugene Ware replied:

    Hi Battra,

Yes, you can pause both individual keywords and keywords (think Google Adwords).

    Thanks for your support.

    Warm Regards,

    Eugene

  7. Thanks for this comprehensive update – and for the absolutely fair way you have worked out the plans.

Will there still be an option to check keywords the current way – i.e. set a time lapse between searches and run the search on our own computers?

Now that I have got used to doing this and just leave the rank tracker search running whilst I am away from the computer, I actually find it works quite well and am pretty happy with this method.

I know that I have to wait a while for this to run, but the paid method would only run the reports once a week – at least with the ‘desktop’ way, I have the opportunity of checking a single keyword or a small group of words as and when I want to.

Also, is the 50 free keywords incorporated in the pricing plan or is this also available to paid members (i.e. will the user of the paid plan for 200 keywords get 200 or 200 plus the 50 free ones)?

Finally, a big thank you for the way you have kept us informed throughout the process, it has made a big difference!

    Hi Alison,

Unfortunately we won’t be supporting the existing way of checking ranks. The main reason is that there’s a significant cost in keeping up with Google’s SERP format changes. Part of the benefit of using a third-party provider is that’s part of what we pay them to do, to stay on top of the constant changes, as well as to provide the significant infrastructure to do searches.

We opted instead to put the effort that we were expending in this area towards higher free keyword plans.

In terms of being able to get a quick report back, we’re currently working on a system where the first set of keywords (up to your quota amount) will be returned back within one to two minutes.

This should give you the best of both worlds – automated weekly querying, plus being able to pull back the first results really quickly (and much more quickly than the current system).

At the moment the 50 free keyword plan is not on top of the paid plan. So a 200 keywords plan will get 200 keywords, not 250. The 50 keyword plan may become a standalone paid plan in the future (ie. you’re essentially getting a paid 50 keyword plan for free).

    Hope that makes sense!

Thanks for your question, and thanks for your support Alison!

    Cheers,

    Eugene

Not being able to check the stats when ever I want is disappointing.

  8. I agree with Alison Graham there. I like the desktop Rank Tracker module, it is just so good to sit at the cockpit and let the Samurai do the job!

Will this still work? Or how will the new feature look? Will it be in-built into the desktop software, instead of just receiving an email?

Anyway, thanks for the great job you’re doing and for keeping the plans affordable.

    Samurai rocks!

    On
    Eugene Ware replied:

    Hi Emanuele,

    Thanks for your question.

With the new service we will not be supporting the existing functionality to use your own computer (or proxies) to look up rankings (ie. the “slow” ranking checks).

The reason is, that it costs a lot of time and money to keep up to date with the constant Google changes (format changes, universal changes, etc).

One of the core benefits with going to a third party data provider is that we can spend less time chasing Google, and put the savings towards subsidising both free users and keeping the special paid plans as affordable as possible.

Thus, we won’t be supporting the old system once the new service has been launched.

To give you an idea of how it will work, initially we’ll send you an email to let you know that your rankings have been updated. You then fire up the Rank Tracker module in either Market Samurai and Article Samurai and then view all your rankings as normal.

In the future we will also have the option of sending PDF email reports of rankings IN ADDITION TO being able to open up the ranking reports within the app.

    Hope that makes sense.

    Warm Regards,

    Eugene

    Josue replied:

there should be something done about this cause I’m sure the vast majority of your users do as Allison, Emanuelle, and myself do. Just check a few keywords at a time when we want.

I usually check this every other day. I wouldn’t want to wait a whole week just to get stats.

Have you guys thought about this at all?

    On
    Eugene Ware replied:

    Hi Josue,

    I understand your concern.

We’ve though very deeply about these kinds of issues when creating our product offering. We’ve spent many days analysing our usage data to see how people are using our exiting service.

Unfortunately, the numbers show that people who check their rankings more than once a week are a very small percentage of our customer base.

However, If there’s enough demand from our customers we may offer a daily service. But, as this will involve 7 times the amount of ranking checks, these plans will be much more expensive. But if the demand is there at this higher price point we may look at this.

The other feature that may work for you is our “instant updates”. When you first add a keyword into the system to be tracked we’ll pull back the rankings within 1-2 minutes. Subsequent checks will then occur weekly.

So, if you are just doing some quick casual checks of some new keywords, then this feature might be able to get you what you want.

I understand if this may be frustrating to here. Our initial focus will be in meeting the needs of the vast majority of our users where a weekly plan and an initial instant update feature will be suitable for the majority of use cases.

Thanks for your feedback, however, I will take your comments onboard.

    Warm Regards,

    Eugene

  9. Also have a question about keyword limitation. Is the 50 keword limit a max for all my projects I have listed?

    Thanks

    On
    Eugene Ware replied:

    Hi Jim,

    Thanks for your question.

The 50 keyword limit in the FREE plan is across all the projects that you wish to track.

If you had 3 existing Project files, you’ll upload these into 3 distinct Rank Tracker “cloud” campaigns. The 50 quota will be across all the keywords in all your campaigns.

    I hope that makes sense.

    Cheers,

    Eugene

    On
    Jim replied:

Yep, thanks. Then I need to start revising my projects keywords prior to April. Correct?

    On
    Eugene Ware replied:

    Hi Jim,

You can choose your 50 keywords later, you don’t need to prune them down now.

When you finish importing your projects, by default, none of the keywords will be tracked. You’ll then select which subset of keywords you wish to track.

You can then move these keywords to another paused project (so you retain any past history), or you can delete them if you don’t want them cluttering up your campaigns.

We’ll have some training videos closer to the release date that will walk you through the process in detail.

    Cheers,

    Eugene

  10. My question is about country specific.

I have clients all over the world, and affiliate campaigns that I wish to rank highly for in certail countries.

I have noticed, and this is not a limitation to your software it is just one of those things, that for keyword research and ranking checks I have to use either my own UK IP or country specific IP’s to get the correct results for the countries I am trying to rank. Just using google.com or google.com.au isn’t enough for true results.

Therefore, does your provider use country specific IP addresses to ensure that the data is correct? i.e. If they are in the states and our projects show we are working on google.co.uk they need to use a UK ip not their US ip.

Also, I am right in thinking that at the oldest point, the rank checking results will be 1 week old?

    Thanks

    Brian

    On
    Eugene Ware replied:

    Hi Brian,

    Thanks for your question.

Localization is a very tricky issue.

The ideal scenario would be to have IP addresses in every region in the world, which is obviously not practical to do.

Our data provider has figured out a clever way to regional data that is currently working very well. While I can’t reveal exactly how they do this, it does seem to produce accurate results.

Please give the new Rank Tracker service a try when it’s released and let me know what you find.

To answer your second question, yes, at the oldest point your ranking checks would be a week old.

You can choose what day of the week we do these checks, however, and the first time you add keywords we’ll fetch the first lot within a few minutes.

I hope that answers your question.

    Warm Regards,

    Eugene

    Vince replied:

They probably have an API into the Google Adsense preview tool?

  11. The last point I think is the most important – that localization thing. It is a pain to log out of google, yahoo, and bing accounts every time to do a manual search. Even then, you know you are giving up IP information and location info. So you change your search location and still aren’t confident that you have hidden your identity sufficiently to check your results. I’m glad that the new rank tracker cloud version makes us completely anonymous.

    On
    Eugene Ware replied:

    Hi Dr. Michael,

This is something that we grilled our potential data providers about in some detail.

The provider we use goes to great lengths to try to remove any personalization and localization effects. They’ve even enable us to show the actual page from Google that they retrieved so that you can see what they saw to verify the correctness of the results. We’ll be integrating that into Rank Tracker shortly after launch so that you can have the confidence of trusting the results.

It’s easy enough to remove personalization in Google (you can add &pws=0 to the end of your query string), but the localization issue is actually a very tricky problem to solve due to the IP address issue, and it’s fair to say that many services out there don’t do a great job in this regard. I can’t reveal how they’re doing it (it’s proprietary knowledge), only that over half the data providers what we spoke to didn’t handle personalisation as well as we’d like.

Please give it a try when we release the beta program and let us know what you think.

    Cheers,

    Eugene

  15. I have owned Market Sam for a couple of years now and I estimate that rank tracker functioned correctly about only 10% of the time at best. Why would we expect this product to be any better?

    On
    Eugene Ware replied:

    Hi Dan,

    Thanks for sharing your concern.

Keeping up with Google’s constant changes is a challenge to us and the industry as a whole.

Issues such as localization, personalization, universal search results that change on a seemingly daily basis make this a difficult problem to solve.

The partner that we have chosen specializes only on providing this data. We’ve talked to them in length about the processes for staying on top of these changes, and dealing with Google’s localization and personalization biases. We’ll also be able to get from them the actual snapshot of the Google results page so you can verify that the data is correct.

These guys power some of the largest ranking solution providers on the web, and we’re confident they will do a better job than us as it’s their sole focus and systems.

    Hi Codo,

We’re planning to auto generate PDF reports on a campaign basis, which can then be automatically emailed to you or your client.

  19. Thanks for giving us a free and paid option, that’s what I was hoping you would resolve for us; not everyone has thousands of keywords to track a month :)

    On
    Eugene Ware replied:

    Hi Austin,

I’m glad the new plan options meet your needs! :-)

When we performed our usage analysis we discovered two patterns. Out of the 8% of people who tracked more than 50 keywords they were either:

    1. Tracking too many keywords due to a lack of a focused SEO strategy. Monitoring a large number of keywords, particularly when you’re starting out is not the ideal strategy. SEO these days is about focus, rather than a spray-and-pray approach that was the norm about 5 or so years ago.
    2. SEO Agencies who needed to track a lot of keywords on behalf of their clients.

Our focus has always been to serve the small online business owner well, and our products and services are targeted this customer segment. As a result, while there are agencies that use our product, there are better products and services on the market who address their specific needs (eg. Whitelabeling reports and sites, etc.

I hope you enjoy the new service!

    Cheers,

    Eugene

  20. Still no way to track thing outside of the Top 100? Used to be the top 1000 I think.

    On
    Eugene Ware replied:

    Hi Ryan,

We did previously allow the top 1000. Unfortunately, only one of the dozen or so providers that we were in discussions with provided more than 1000 results.

Tracking 1000 results requires 10 times as many queries as 100 results, and the pricing from this provider was significantly higher as a result. In addition, this provider didn’t meet our other selection criteria for reliability, scalability and approach to handling Google’s localization biases.

As part of our usage analysis we found that only about 5% of our customers were tracking more than 100 results, and in the interests of providing a reliable and affordable product we opted to go with 100 results.

    I hope you understand.

    Warm Regards,

    Eugene

So To get daily rank tracking updates I’m going to need to find a new company to work with?

    On

    Hi Brandon,

At this stage the answer is yes, unfortunately. If there’s enough demand we may offer this in the future, but as I’ve outline in the post, the costs would need to be approximately 7 times higher.

What we will have from day one, is instant updates for the first time you enter a keyword. Add a keyword, wait one or two minutes, and you’ll see your rankings on that day – and then get weekly updates from then on.

I know that’s probably not what you want to hear Brandon, but it’s the best we can offer at this stage.

This may be a little of topic but would appreciate a response. Do you have any plans to bring back the PR analysis function which was once provided?

    On
    Eugene Ware replied:

    Hi Daniel,

The SEO world is a little worried about PR.

    1. PR is only updated once every 3 or 4 months or so.
    2. Google has dropped support for the Google Toolbar in Firefox, and doesn’t have support in Chrome. The only place it exists is in IE, and it’s not switched on by default anymore. We believe it will be phased out shortly.
    3. PR doesn’t seem to make a difference – most top SEOs are on record for saying that it doesn’t really matter. Look at the SERPs and you’ll find plenty of cases where a low PR site is ranking above much stronger competition.

This leads us to believe that PR is not long for this world.

The good news, is that we’re working on a great alternative that will be updated DAILY, and will be guaranteed to be around in the long-term. I can’t say anything about it at this stage, but we believe this to be a better solution in the long-term.

  26. Quick question: if have many different projects and each of those projects has less than 50 keywords, it’s free? I can’t tell from your copy and just want to be sure…

    Thanks in advance!

    On
    Support replied:

    Hi Chad,

The number of keywords you can track is across all projects, not an individual project file.

If you have 10 projects, each with 30 keywords, then you’ll have a total of 300 keywords.

In this case, you’ll need to subscribe to one of the plans.

If you have 10 projects, each with 5 keywords, then you’ll have a total of 50 keywords.

You won’t have to subscribe to a paid plan if you have 50 or fewer keywords across all your projects.

  34. Hi Eugene,

I went through the post, thanks for the details. I wanted to clarify:

This keyword limitation has only to do with Rank Tracker feature, correct? It will have no impact on the number of keywords returned at keyword research step. Also is there still risk in being blocked by Google depending on number of queries or it doesn’t apply anymore?

    Thanks.

    On
    Support replied:

    Hi Max.

The limitation is SOLELY related to the number of keywords tracked in Rank Tracker at any one time.

The risk of being blocked by Google is still there for doing large amounts of keyword research, but as we will be again taking on the Rank Tracker queries, the risk of being banned due to too many ranking queries will no longer be there.

I am sorry, I am still confused. As a Market Samuri owner will I still have to sign up for the ranking program or will I be able to use the ranking program through MS only. I have less than 50 keywords.

    Thanks,

    Dana

    Hi Dana,

This new Rank Tracker will be integrated into Market Samurai, just like the current one is. There will be some changes to the interface, but it will not be a stand-alone product.

You’ll still be able to use this new Rank Tracker service, but you will have to use the Rank Tracker module before April 30th to be eligible for the 50 free keywords.

If you have any other questions, please don’t hesitate to send a quick email to support@noblesamurai.com and we’ll do our best to answer them!

  38. I knew that one way or another you would do it!! This is an amazing deal, once again by an outstanding company! I use both Market Samurai and Article Samurai and cannot get over how god the products are for the cost they were. You guys never cease to amaze me by your generosity. I know you are in this to make money but you give, give give and should be congratulated for that. Thank you.

  39. Great work you all!!

Bravo! For your super customer service.

  40. Hi Eugene,

You said – “Once a week, our “cloud” servers will check your rankings …”. But I (and I guess many of us) need to check my rankings almost everyday. So, I wonder if getting just one email every week is going to be enough. Hopefully, as you said, the Rank Tracking inside MS will also be functional for at least <50 keywords.

    Thanks.

    Hi Ameet,

When we release the new Rank Tracker service, we will be discontinuing the old one. This new Rank Tracker will be integrated into Market Samurai, just like the current one is. There will be some changes to the interface, but it will not be a stand-alone product.

The new Rank Tracker service will take over all ranking checks that you can currently do through Market Samurai.

Unfortunately, there is no ability to check rankings daily with the new service. To do this would be 7x the cost – if there is sufficient demand at this increased price point, however, we will look into making this option available for users.

  41. Hey Eugene and the team

Just want to say a big thank you for looking to resolve this issue quickly. What some people don’t realize is that things are changing with SEO and “BIG” changes with Google and data is getting harder to provide (Unless you have huge pockets)

You always seem to amaze me how you pull this off. I use Market Samurai and Article Samurai for our clients and without it I would be lost lol.

The monthly cost is beyond brilliant, for the data that we get and the time we save I am more than happy.

    Customer for life

    Danny.

  42. Thank you very much for being upfront and very very honest with us. It’s the Ozzie way and the right way to do business. I am a very happy customer and really appreciate what you guys have done so far from the very beginning. Keep it up and have a great day.

  43. Excellent work as always.

Question: Will the special existing customer pricing be available in the future? That is, if I decide to stick with the 50 free keywords for now, or go with the 100 keywords option but end up in 6 months needing to track 500 keywords – will that special pricing still be available?

  46. This is outstanding Eugene!

You guys did it again :D I’m very happy with the paid plans for “veteran” users you detailed. A big plus point in comparison to other rank tracking services out there. Hope we can see the new MS Rank Tracker soon.

    All the best!

  47. Fair enough. I guess if you’re getting up to the level of wanting to track a few hundred keywords you can afford a small amount. But, taking the “blue belt” after April 30 will be $600 a year for some people.

That add’s up. Maybe you should provide the software itself at no charge for people who track large amounts of keywords?

    Just a suggestion.

  48. Looks great, was using another provider which we actually just canned and were about to use another service so will wait and see how this goes.

    Eugene Ware replied:

    Hi Greg,

    Thanks for your comment.

We’re initially only going with weekly rankings, and may offer daily ranking updates in the future. It’s what the majority of Ranking services provide, and from our data analysis it’s what most of our customers do (even internally we don’t check more than once a week).

However, daily rankings are substantially more expensive to provide (7 times more). I’d like to get your feedback, if the retail prices were 7 times the cost for daily updates would this still represent good value for you?

We’ve had a few people ask us about this now, I’d like to get some feedback on whether a 7 fold price increase would be worth it to provide the more frequent ranking updates.

    Thanks for your questions though!

    Warm Regards,

    Eugene

  50. 1. very important, can you create costume reports that i can send my clients?
    2. if i check only twice a month can i get discount?

    Eugene Ware replied:

    Hi Tzvi,

    Thanks for your questions.

In a future version of the service we will add the ability to email PDF reports automatically for each campaign that you create. For higher plans, we may also add the ability to white-label the reports.

In terms of your other question, unfortunately the system we’re building and the user-interface we’ve designed won’t easily be able to move to fortnightly checking. What you could do is alternatively pause each campaign after each week so that you effectively double the number of keywords you are checking for each price-point.

    Warm Regards,

    Eugene

  53. Thanks for all of the hard work you guys put in to keep RT going! And for offering such great pricing options.

Just thought I’d check if you have anything in the pipelines for tracking local rankings (suburb, city, state etc).

Although there are lots of ‘local’ tools coming onto the marketing I’d rather stick with MS, if possible :)

    On
    Eugene Ware replied:

    Hi Michaele,

Thanks for your question. We have thought about that. It won’t be there on day one (our focus is in getting out the first version as quickly as possible), but it may be a possible feature for the future.

Our data provider doesn’t directly support this feature, but this would be easy for them add this in the future. Can’t give you a timeline on this at the moment though!

If you could let me know the names of some of the best Local tools available I’ll check them out and see how they’ve implemented this functionality, and think about how we might change our product to support this in the future.

    Thanks for your support!

  54. If we elect to go with the free plan right now and not buy more keywords, can we upgrade at the existing user price AFTER April 30th? Or do we have to figure out our future needs today in order to lock in the special pricing.

    Warm Regards,

  55. Thanks for adding the ability to track ranking free for existing user.

However I have to admit I seldom use rank tracking in market samurai. I find it troublesome to track a long list of keywords. I would prefer feature as in semrush which I can just enter the my url and I got all the keywords which my site is currently rank in google.

If the data provider are able to provide such feature that would be really useful.

    On
    Eugene Ware replied:

    Hi Foo,

    Thanks for your question.

We’re not planning on supporting the SEMRush API to “reverse engineer” rankings based on your domain in the near feature.

But by being able to enter in some keywords and let us do the work it will certainly make the process a lot faster and easier. It’s quite slow to do that now, and the new service will make this less of a chore.

Also, when you initially add in keywords you’ll be able to get your initial rankings back in a few minutes, and then get weekly ranking reports each week.

We’ve talked internally about interfacing with your Google Analytics account (and possibly SEMRush) to initially suggest keywords for you to track, but this won’t be there day one.

    Warm Regards,

    Eugene

  56. Thanks for the Update.

Do we get those nice features as white label reportings ?

    Warm Regards,

I am upset. Why should a paid user like me be subsidizing a free user?

If I use my own proxies, would I be penalized as well? If yes, WHY?

I have several clients which I do reports for, and this charging will be telling me to switch over to other products.

I use Market Samurai primarily for rank tracking, and now it is going to lose its charm, for me at least.

    On
    Eugene Ware replied:

    Hi Eddie,

I’m very sorry that you’re upset.

Our options were either to charge everyone or see if we can bear the cost of supporting a free offering.

While you might see it as the paid users subsidising the free users – it’s more of a case that paid users at our retail pricing (after April 30th) will subsidise both the 50 keyword free plans, and also the discounted paid plans. This might take a while for this to occur, and we will bear the cost in the meantime until the service breaks even.

With the new service we will not be supporting the existing functionality to use your own computer (or proxies) to look up rankings. It costs a lot of time and money to keep up to date with the constant Google changes (format changes, universal changes, etc). One of the core benefits with going to a third party data provider is that we can spend less time chasing Google, and put the savings towards subsidising both free users and the special paid plans such as yourself.

Thus, we won’t be supporting the old system once the new service has been launched.

You may wish to try a service like SEO Power Suite which has support for proxies, but be aware that they also have a monthly search engine update fee of up to $20 a month that kicks in after a few months.

I’m sorry to let you down, we’ve tried our very best to try look after everyone, and to minimize the costs for everyone effected by these changes.

At the very least, opt-in for the 50 keyword free plan before 30th April to make sure you lock in your higher quota in case you decide to give Rank Tracker a try again in the future.

    Yours sincerely,

    Eugene

  58. Any chance that you guys will offer a paid version of the rank tracker that allows for daily rank tracking?

I would be willing to pay for such an option as once a week tracking isn’t going to cut it for those who work in the SEO field every day.

    On
    Eugene Ware replied:

    Hi Rich,

    Thanks for your question.

We are considering it in the future if there’s enough demand. As noted in my post above, as there are 7 times as many ranking checks for a daily service, the price points would have to be increased in proportion to pay for the increased usage. Would this level of pricing still work for you?

What we are implementing is the facility to return your first set of results within a few minutes of adding new keywords. Thus you can get initial rankings quickly, and then have your weekly updates come through each week.

    Warm Regards,

    Eugene

    Hi eugene

IM hopeing you will see and respond to this point.

I see a number of people repeating this question and i think your in avoidance mode. (I say that kindly)

As an SEO supplier if a client contacts me and says “hows my serps going” and i say Oh well its to expensive to tell you so can you wait 5 days? i think the answer would be No.

Especially as every other online cloud based service I’ve seen and use does this!!

For clarity I currently use or trial
    sescout.com
    serpfox
    positionly

Now sescout is the best and your going to be much much cheaper so im not knocking you.

Why do i need daily checking other than for client response?

One new campaigns whilst i dont care what hapens day to day it can be instructive to see a gradual movement insers (as seen on daily checks rather than say “falling off a cliff” with weekly checks.

Once a sites establsh weekly is fine.

So i would like to see an add-on option pack to say track 10, 20 or 50 keywords daily. Its going to be a lot more but thats fine.

By limiting the keyword checks to justthe current targets we have a balance?

Anyway thank you for your updates and your hard work! I love market samurai and wish you guys the best!

  59. Hi Eugene,

Rank Tranker in MS is really killing my spirit :(
I am a loyal fan of Market Samurai for years and it is really a pain not to be able to utilize MS to it’s full potential in the past few weeks.

I am just wondering why isn’t market samurai able to do what SEO PowerSuite is capable of in terms of fetching ranking data? (http://www.link-assistant.com/rank-tracker/)

That software did quite a nice job for me and provides both localized and global results which i need for some of my clients in local niches and some sites that global in nature

I have switched over to them for the past weeks to check my ranking and it seems that there are quite ok from my limited experience of using it.

If Market Samurai were to roll out this new cloud platform for checking Ranking, would we be able to have the option to check both localised and global results?

    On
    Eugene Ware replied:

    Hi Johnson,

Sorry to hear that you’re a little disappointed.

SEO Powersuite is a good product. Just be aware that it’s not a fixed price product as their sales letter may suggest. They have a monthly update fee ranging anywhere from $5 – $20 that kicks in after about 6 months I think.

SEO Powersuite solves the problem by spacing out their queries over a long-period of time amongst a range of other techniques.

That’s currently what we’ve got implemented (the 30 second delay), but it’s not a great user experience because of long ranking update times.

We believe it is a better experience if we can handle the rank checks on our side. Rate limiting in Google not only affects you, but anyone else sharing your internet connection. Thus it’s not really suitable in many circumstances. This also opens up the ability for us to roll out mobile apps in the future as well that can check your ranking reports, and also potentially get push notifications when reports are ready, or you’ve received a big drop in your rankings. A purely desktop model limits this somewhat.

The current plans for Rank Tracker include allowing you to specify your region and language for each campaign. We don’t currently support the equivalent of “Show only results in Australia”, but we do support being able to search using Google Australia. That’s not to say that we wouldn’t support it in the future however.

What I’d really like to add is the ability to specific a city like “New York” and see the results for that city only. As local SEO is more important these days for local business, that would be a great feature to have. Our data provideR doesn’t currently support this, but it would be easy for them to add in the future.

Once again, I’m sorry for the frustration and disappointment that you’re feeling.

    Warm Regards,

    Eugene

Let me quote this: “We believe it is a better experience if we can handle the rank checks on our side.”

From my experience, things you believe are best for customers are usually not the best thing.

I think MS should have done some kind of survey to determine what is the best for the customer.

I been reading a lot of the comments and it seems that a lot are upset at the fact we can’t check stats on our own time.

As I mentioned before, I check it every other day. And I add and delete keywords all the time.

This is completely taking the user experience out of it.

I just don’t like the fact that we can’t check it on our own.

If I’m going to pay for something, I would like to have full hands on control of it.

If I wanted someone else to do it for me, I would go to odesk.

  60. I just want to let you know that you guys and girls…ROCK! I think that your transparency and candidness have really shined in your challenging situation. To even offer a FREE version and to “EAT” the costs is admirable and EVERYONE SHOULD BE GRATEFUL!

We’re in this for the long-term, and we try our best to make the best decisions for our customers in the long-term as well.

We hope that by looking out for our customers, that as we release new features and products, that people will give them a try because they know we’ll take care of them. The world of SEO and Internet Marketing can be a dark place, where people “launch” a product and then stop supporting it 4 weeks later and it stops working. We think that’s short term thinking, and represents everything that we hate about the industry!

The pricing structure looks to be more than fair considering that there is a lot more to Market Samurai than one module and revisions appear to be constant.

Hopefully this pricing structure will allow the developers to continue on their path on an equitable basis.

  66. 66

    Hi Eugene and team,

Well handled as always, I have a lot of respect for how you continue to run your company. While all this was going down, I tried checking 10 keywords in Rank Tracker. I rec’d some kind of notice/warning from Google that I had too many queries, and the rank data even for this small group was way off. However, I wasn’t ever really clear about how the Personalization and Localization works in Google until your posts above. Would this account for my Rank Tracker data being so off?

Also, with regard to backlinks, I’ve heard from other experts that there is no reliable source for backlinks. They said Majestic SEO is the best, but even it can be way off. They did say that for Competition analysis while the actual numbers of backlinks aren’t accurate, the relative distances between the numbers hold up as a gauge (meaning if they a competitor has 10x’s the links you do, that is pretty accurate even if the actual numbers aren’t).

Would love to get your input on the above – esp. the first until this new transition gets sorted.

Thanks again for the great product and customer support,
    Chris

    On
    Eugene Ware replied:

    Hi Chris,

Thanks for your questions. Depending on your connection you can get rate limited by Google.

As for the accuracy of the data, I’m not aware of any current Rank Tracker accuracy issues. The problem is most likely to be localization / personalization. To check, click the little green arrow next to the Ranking number to see what query we used to pull back these results. There can still be localization issues, but at least personalization should be taken out of the equation. If you keep having issues even after entering the captcha then a short-term work around would be to get access to a proxy server, and plug it into the settings area in Market Samurai to overcome the rate limiting issue. You might want to check out someone like Trusted Proxies and sign up for a trial and see if that fixes the problem. If not, please feel free to contact our help desk who’ll be more than happy to help you through any issues that you might be experiencing.

In any case, staying on top of changing Google result page formats, and reliably dealing with personalization/localization issues is an ongoing challenge. One of the side benefits of going with the data provider we’ve chosen is that because it’s their sole business, they stay on top of these changes as soon as they occur. So you should see more reliable results with the new Rank Tracker service as well.

It’s true what you say about back links. Majestic SEO is the best, but they often don’t return data for low authority sites (less than 30 links). Unfortunately there’s no easy way around this aside from breaking into Google’s data centers and accessing their data.

It’s important that when using Majestic, that you use the “Fresh Index”, and not the historical index for reporting back link numbers. The Historical index shows every single link that has every linked to your site. So if someone linked to you in 2001, that will still show up as link, even if the original link was removed.

If you’re monitoring your own site and have added Google Webmaster Tools, then you may be able to get some additional data points from there. The data is not always that fresh though, but it’s another source that you might not be aware of.

    Hope that helps you out.

    Cheers,

    Eugene

This is good news and as a heavy user I will no doubt subscribe to one of the plans which do seem reasonable.

However, there is still IMHO a far more important issue on MS that is not yet resolved : when will you go back to using Google data for SEOC and SEOLC ?

For me, the tool cannot and does not fulfill its main objective (keyword analysis and identification of opportunities) while using SEOT from Google but SEOC and SEOLC from Bing.

I know that a large number of users (myself included) have been asking this question since the start of your issues.

Can you please give us an update on this burning issue ?

    Many thanks

    Paul

  74. We don’t use MS for ranktracking but already found a good alternative. We value other MS features to be more of use for our daily work as SEO advisors. We believe MS is the best tool for SEO competition research and for keyword analysis.

  75. Hi Eugene,

Hats off to the team at Noble Samurai, and well done to the management team for taking the time to do the analysis properly, and deliver a coherent message.

It never ceases to amaze me the professionalism that NS have, and the lack of professionalism and transparency in what is an extremely competitive market.

If you want to know how to deliver to your customers, in terms of value, message, and marketing, Noble Samurai are an excellent example of the right way to do it.

Thanks to all involved for continuing to exceed my expectations!

  76. Free plan in Rank Tracker is greta news, yhank you! Do you plan to develop more functions in seo competition like sorting or other?

  77. You guys are missing what you can now show to the client.

A client ranks outside the 1000 rank. As I work to bring them to the first page (at which point they call me Mr. Incredible!), they want to see how their ranking is improving, which is code word to see if I am doing my job.

If MS only offers the top 100, it could be weeks or months before the clients website shows up in the top 100, if ever!

    How will I show the client a track record of them moving from ### (outside 1000) to ### (outside 1000) to 999 to 800 to 650 to 421 to 274 to 121 to 93 to 63 to 47 to 23 to 14 to 3?

If each number in my example above took one month to get to, the rankings won’t show up in your new Ranking Tracker for 9 months (73)! Every one of my clients would be furious and would fire me within 3 months because I can’t show them their ranking improvements until Christmas of this year!

Interested in what other SEO guru’s think as well.

    Thank you,
Eric The Man (just a man, not THE Man)

  78. Thanks for the detailed post Eugene and it looks like you guys have managed to come up with a great solution that should suit the vast majority – a tricky thing to do in adverse conditions!

As a new user to MS I’ve been hungrily digesting all the video tutorials that you have in the dojo but Rank Tracker seems to be one area that I haven’t seen anything on – are there any videos around as an intro or will the new interface be so different that it’s best to wait till that comes out?

As a follow on from the above I have to say I’m really impressed with the depth of MS – when I bought it I’d only seen the keyword side but the number and scope of other modules has been a great surprise (as is the amount of video training available for free!)

Will certainly be signing up for the new Rank Tracker as I’m building a lot of trust and confidence in you guys based on your last few blog posts and the way you’ve bounced back.

    Keep up the good work,

    Cheers

  81. Hi,

This looks cool. I like the way you can gradually upgrade your membership depending on your needs rather than just go to an expensive membership from no where.

The automatic checking should help me avoid the bad habit of obsessively checking my rankings far too frequently as well!

But sometimes it is pretty useful to run the system there and then and get a answer to a keyword question. Waiting a week for the answer may not be ideal when you are looking to fix a problem or make a decision.

Will it be possible to still run the software mannually, on the paid options, to get an immediate answer? (perhaps with a limited number of keywords/searches – or even buy credits to do it) Is it the case that I can do this upto 50 keywords or from my own computers location ie not your servers?

    Andrew

  82. Thanks guys for working so hard to get this sorted.

It’s great you have managed to keep a free option available for existing customers and the pricing for existing customers looks very fair to me too.

  83. Hi guys – great job fixing it all up and am really pleased to see you have come up with a great way to keep almost everyone happy. The ‘old’ service was slow and a bit clunky so I am really looking forward to the new version.

  84. Thanks for addressing this in a way which should suit a huge number of users – sure, it wont work for some maybe which is a shame, but for most it strikes me as a good deal.

If it stands up like you hope it will after the beta, then it looks like you’ll have turned a (big) problem into an opportunity to update the service and effectively too…

One Q – if you already have a licence for MS and/or AS do you need to do anything at all before April 30th, or will you automatically be on the White Belt plan – and will you then be able to upgrade to higher plans at the lower cost at any time in the future.

  85. Hi Eugene & team,

    I am amazed!

You have created a more than great solution at an awesome pricepoint. Can hardly believe that you are bearing the considerable cost for your users. Don’t think there are many who woulf do that!!!

Well, I am definitely in and looking forward to the cloud based service with automatic weekly reports. That makes things easier and smoother for me.

    THANKS

  86. Not very happy about that! I have the paid version and you change the deal…

  87. Hey Eugene,

While I can understand the need to cut down costs (or make more money; depends how you look at it), 50 keywords is really not much to begin with, especially if you’re just starting to work on a website.

Majority of new sites needs to be checked across hundreds of keywords to pinpoint the best possible ones, BEFORE you start optimizing and tracking the “best ones”.

Also, as a software developer, I don’t see what’s the big deal with maintaining the local tracker… yes – it defeats the purpose of the cloud for 92% of the users, but it works, and it works well! why change something that works well?

    SUGGESTION:
Keep the local Rank Tracker and add the cloud service as an paid add-on for those who really need it.

    - OR -

Allow FREE users to check UNLIMITED number of keywords ONCE per month (once per keyword/month) AND track up to 50 keywords (50 keywords/week).

  88. Hi Guys!

Wow, fantastic! Being an existing PAID customer of both Market and Article Samurai, this is music to my ears! I have to say, I have been using raventools.com for past 30 days on a free trial and now it’s going to be $99/month, so kinda glad you nearly at testing phase!

Two important question that I had in mind, and that is:

    1. “Can one upgrade from any price plan at any stage?”

    2. “Will one subscription to a price plan allow me to use the ranktracker on both Market and Article Samurai?”

    Please advise.

I very much look forward to your reply.

One thing I wanted to clarify here.

As I grow my business and as an existing user of MS, would one still qualify for the discounted package if they purchsed the rank tracker a little later on, or would I have to purchase it now, even though I am not yet at the stage of hitting 50+ searches?

Just wanted to know if this pricing would be locked in for existing members or if they too would have to pay the higher price if they purchased the extra’s later on.

Wow. I’m not getting it. A service included in the cost of the product is converted to a subscription and people are happy?

I’m wondering if this is the first step in moving more included services to a paid version. First RT; what’s next?

How long will it take before MS is at Article Samurai pricing levels?

  99. thanks for the much awaited update Eugene. looking forward to utilizing the paid plans. you definitely have the cost advantage over the competition, and based on having used MS for the past couple years I have no doubts the quality will also be amazing. thank you for doing what you do.

  100. Great, comprehensive update Eugene. Thank you for coming up with a wonderful solution – although I am not surprised at all. You continue to over deliver and I know you know that it is very much appreciated. I am looking forward to the modified rank tracker module, as well as some of the advanced packages.

  101. Hia Eugene,

    I have a few doubts:

    1) The 1000 keywords for the brown belt are in total for all the projects right? not for the the maximun in a project? If I have 3 projects of 250 keywords, 1 of 200 keywords, and 2 of 100 keywords, I would have 1150 for which I need more than 1000 keywords.

    2) I see that the price for keyword is 0,04 for the 1000 keywords plan and also 0,04 for the 2500 keyword plan. It’s more than the double volume of keywords (x2,5)… wouldn’t it bee normal to reduce a bit the price for keyword as the volume is much more to 0’03 or at least 0’035? I feel that the ones that are in the 1% in which I’m surely included have to assume the big cost for all the rest of the users.
I think is normal that if we pay a for a huge volume of keywords, we should have a “special offer” in the price per keyword, isn’t it?. The way you set it it’s more rentable for people like me to pay 2 brown belts (1000 keyword plans = 40$x2) than 1 black belt (2500 keyword plan = 100$), is more cheaper and I would have acces to Market Samurai from the double of PC’s…

    3) Will I be able to have a bill monthly for my accountancy?

    Thanks

  102. 102

Hi Eugene. Thanks for keeping us up to date with the status of MS. This may have been asked already, and if so I apologize for the redundancy. I use MS primarily for doing keyword research, and occasionally (monthly at the most) I’ll run a ranking report for a few of my clients. If I keep every campaign/project as inactive, and only activate and run the rank tracker monthly to get these reports, and keep the number of keywords per project at 50 or less, does this qualify for the free version? I.e., I don’t have a need for the ranking information to be up to date except for once a month.

  103. Hey MS gang how’s it going.

First let me say that I love ya guys. Really I do. Always on top of things.

But this new rank tracker thig an how it’s going to work is not a good thing in my honest opinion.

    Here’s an example.

If my client walks in today and wants results. What am I to say, that he needs to wait a week?

    Not cool.

As for me, if I’m going to pay for this, then I would like a little more control of it.

Weekly stats just won’t be enough for me and as I can see by the comments left all ready, I’m not the only one that feels this way.

I totally understand the whole deal behind it, I do.

It just doesn’t seem like an actual fix.

The discount is cool and even the full price is good. But in my opinion, your competition charging more is a better deal just because we can actually do more with it.

Anyway, I’m still using it for research. However, I will miss the rank tracker so much.

Guess I’ll have to do some sole searching for another tracking feature. Sorry but the way you guys have it now is just not good enough.

Just hope this doesn’t kill MS for good.

    Cheers,
    Joey

  104. Excellent solution at a more than fair price. What impresses me most is that you took the time to analyse existing usage patterns and didn’t just guess. Thanks again.

    Hi Folks

First I’d like to add my thanks to all the others. You consistently define what customer service is all about.

Quick question, which you may have answered but I got tired of reading all the comments.

When you say “sign up for …” are you referring to signing up for MS or do you mean the new rank-tracker program?

I am a MS-paid owner but will be satisfied with the 50-free program for now. Will I still qualify for the 50% discount rates for the rank-tracker if I need to upgrade after April 30?

    Cheers,

  106. 106

At first I was a bit pissed this was happening and wrote a response to the original post concerning it… I’m glad I took my own advice about emails/posts, don’t do it in anger.

I’ve been with MS since its initial launch through 30DC and have never regretted it, even now. You guys have done a great job for a long time and the solution you’ve come up with more than satisfactory, it’s genius.

Now that I’ve explained what a dooch I almost made of myself, and how terrific you guys are, I have a question.

I too am confused about the whole “existing customer” signup for a plan. I’ve read the posts here and still can’t figure it out, especially since there seems to be a contradiction between two MS posters.

Eugene said: “You must sign up to any plan (even the FREE 50 Keyword Whitebelt Plan will count) before 30th April to get access to the special 50% off pricing.”

    BUT
Sarah said: “Initially, all users will be on a free keyword plan by default, but you’ll need to sign up to a paid plan before April 30th to take advantage of the discounted prices.”

So, Eugene says signing up for FREE plan is ok, but Sarah says a PAID plan. Which is it? Free plan by default and locked in pricing discounts, OR, purchase a PAID plan ( even if it’s the cheapest $5.00/mo)?

    Thanks Guys/Gals

    On
    Miriam Parkinson replied:

Sorry about the confusion! It stems from the fact that we were all a little confused. We changed how we were going to manage the discounted plans based on feedback on the blog so there was a contradiction in the comments for a period of time.

In order to be eligible for the discounted plans (once they are launched) you need to either:
    * Visit the Rank Tracker product page in the accounts system
    * Click ‘Change Plan’ in Rank Tracker (within Market Samurai)
    * Create a campaign in Rank Tracker
    * Upload a project to a campaign in Rank Tracker

Provided this is done by the 30th April you will get access to the 50 keyword free plan and be eligible for the discounted paid plans if/when you need to upgrade in the future.

    I hope this clarifies things!

Hi. I have market samurai and a monthly subscription to article samurai. Does that mean I will get 50 free keywords for each? If not, how will it work? Thanks.

  108. 108

    Hi Eugene,

First let me say that MS is by far my favorite tool to use when it comes to Keyword and Rank Tracking. I also think it’s a wise decision to move to the system you’re moving to.

I know this has been asked, but I just want to make sure I’m understanding the new pricing structure for existing customers correctly.

Say I sign up for the 50 Keyword Free Rank Checker before April 30. If I need to upgrade to the 100 word plan 6 months later, would I get it at the 50% off rate or would I be paying the retail rate?

If it’s at the 50% rate, would that hold true if at a later date I needed to upgrade to the 1000 word plan? Or when I went to the additional upgrade would I then be paying the retail rate?

In essence, is the plan to allow current customers (those that sign up for at least the “white belt” plan by April 30) to have access to higher level plans at the 50% rate going forward, or will there be a cutoff where they’ll be paying the “retail” rates if they choose to upgrade or downgrade their plan?

Again, I think you guys have come up with a wonderful solution to the problems Google’s changes caused. I also think the new way will be much more efficient, which is always a good thing.

    Thanks,

    Josh

  109. So, let me get this straight…. Google made a huge change to how your service works. Instead of using them as the scapegoat, you guys found a way to continue to service 92% of your customers for free even though it will come at a moderate cost to you?

Hats off to MS! Thank you for all of your hard work and research. This no undoubtedly has taken uncountable hours of your time. Every MS user should feel so blessed and “treated” that you guys have been working so hard for us.

  110. Well done!

You have found a great solution… although it will not fit my requirements I am still a very happy customer and could not be without MS… I have many smaller projects and I have 20 – 30 keywords for each project… however I have found another solution to Rank Tracking.

As far as I am concerned even without RT MS is very good value for money…

Question: I use RT not only for rank tracking but also for tracking the development in Backlinks. This is especially true for Article Samurai, but also for MS…

Will you consider adding a Backlink Tracking Module instead of RT to fill this gap?

Thanks a million for your extraordinary effort!!

  111. Eugene,

    Thanks for the update.

Just in case I have missed it, who are you going to use to source the data? The reason I ask is that I also use SEO Powersuite and I have found the Rank Tracker module is quicker than many of the competitors (not comparing against MS or AS I hasten to add) and more reliable results. Therefore, I don’t want to pay for MS if it is the same source.

Many thanks for your efforts in reaching a fair solution to the problems posed by the Google changes.

I do have a couple of questions:

Would it be possible to set up two groups of 50 keywords, then alternate the group that is live, so effectively getting data on 100 keywords once a fortnight?

When we upload our keywords to the new scheme, will the existing data be carried forward?

Can you clarify the question many are confused on, regarding moving up the tiers in future, and the price applicable. If you are an existing member now, and you start with the 50 free keywords under the new scheme, but later need to upgrade to 100, will you still get the discount.

In answer to one question, it was suggested that the 50 keyword free plan may become a paid for plan (Answer to Comment 7)
“At the moment the 50 free keyword plan is not on top of the paid plan. So a 200 keywords plan will get 200 keywords, not 250. The 50 keyword plan may become a standalone paid plan in the future”
Can you clarify this – are you suggesting that even those existing users who will qualify for the free 50 keywords, may have to pay for the free 50 keywords in the future?

    Many thanks.

    On
    Eugene Ware replied:

    Hi Eddie,

    Thanks for your questions.

    1. Yes, you can alternate your keyword groups and effectively get 100 free keywords. But you’ll have to do this manually (pause/unpause each week).

    3. Yes, if you sign up to the free 50 keyword plan before April 30th, and then want to upgrade in the future after the cut-off date, you will still get access to the special 50% off pricing.

    4. To clarify my statement, if you have a 50 keyword free plan then you get to keep access to this forever. You won’t have to pay for it in the future.

  116. Hi Eugene,

    I read the post and most of the comments but I am still not clear on one thing that I would like to know about. Pardon me if this has already been answered but I just couldn’t read hundreds of comments. My question is below;

I am a paid customer of MS and I use Rank Track regularly. My current usage is below 50 keywords so I don’t have to buy any subscription as it will be useless. But what happens when I grow and add more keywords for more websites.. I mean will I get the same discounted price of being an existing customer when I subsscribe to a Paid Plan in 6 months from now?

Also, this 50 keywords is based on per campaign, per website or per client? Or is it just 50 keywords and no matter how many domains/URLs, how many campaigns and how many clients I have?

I am sorry but I haven’t used any other paid service as yet and thus don’t know how it works. And I can proudly say I never felt like any other service because what I needed was available in MS.

Thanks for the great software and I support the paid plans. When I feel a need, I’ll upgrade to paid plans happily.

This “rank tracker” issue was a big deal to me, and you’ve found a solution that is VERY equitable to everyone.

You’ve even enhanced it’s features so it’s now the best! (imho)

    Awesome work.

    Thanks again!

  122. Hey guys,

Glad you are getting this worked out. I am not sure if you addressed this or not but those of us that purchased Market Samurai and we are monthly subscribers to Article Samurai do we get more than 50 keywords per month? Or are 50 keywords included for both?

    Thanks,

    James

Well, I prefer traffic travis as I can track 1000s of keywords and there is no monthly fee. Any reason why I should suddenly be paying a monthly fee for rank tracking through MS?

  124. Hi

Thanks for the update – I was starting to worry and look for alternatives but this post has put a stop to that. Where can we sign up for the plans (or is this only available when the beta is ready?)

    Thanks

    Paul

    Hi Paul,

We haven’t actually released the sign up pages yet!

Once we release the new Rank Tracker service, we’ll open the signup pages.

We’ll send out an email with some more information closer to the release date.

    Cheers,

  125. As a MS and AS customer with about 80% common keywords across both systems will one RT subscription cover both products?

    Hi Bob,

Your Rank Tracker plan will be held at the account level, so you will be able to use the same plan for both Market and Article Samurai.

If you have any other questions, please don’t hesitate to send an email to support@noblesamurai.com and we’ll do our best to answer.

  126. Hi,

first of all, very good pricing plans! I have been checking out lots of companies the last few months, and all are way more expensive (and now you have given an insight in why this is). And I really appreciate the fact that you give the discount to current AND future customers (till 30 April). That is customer service at it’s best!

What I would like to know if you are thinking about a simple read-only iPhone/Android app. Since you already got the data in the cloud instead of on a local computer, it might be easy to push this info to an app as well. What I like is preparing my fixed computer work on my iPhone, so selecting projects first before starting things up. Having the Rank Tracker data on my iPhone means I can start up faster, OR use this data when working on a computer which hasn’t got my MS installation (for excample, I currently have my leg broken and mostly work from my laptop, while my MS is installed on my fixed computer).

    Thank you for reading,

    Jacco

  127. An off-the-topic question.

Which translation plugin / software are you using?

Yours is neat on the sidebar. I tried several but couldn’t find the right one.

  128. Effectively, I’m new in internet marketing. I am utilizing plr articles however they aren’t cheap. Currently I’m in search of a plr article membership site which can allow me to download plr articles at a month-to-month fee. Please help.

What happens to the keywords we have been tracking do we lose this or will you be able to upload this?

As one of the original testers of MS and a NobleFanatic to the point of a invisible belt color, Im glad, relieved, excited to hear Diamyo’s at MarketSamuri answered the call.

Question when is the Beta invite going out? (also the sign up)

Waiting patiently with my Yoroi on and a glass of IWantRankTracker sake in hand :)
