Hi Gang,
When I first came across the Google Search-Based Keyword Tool, and did what I’m about to show you for the first time, I was gobsmacked.
It blew my mind.
I’ve never seen such an incredible resource full of ripe ideas for niche online marketing.
So if you’ve ever struggled to come up with a new idea for a web-site, this is going to blow your mind too:
Here’s How It Works…
You tell Google what you’re interested in, and it comes up with up to 800 relevant, high-traffic keyword ideas that you can put into Market Samurai to begin your research.
Now, imagine if you were getting in on the first wave – that many of these ideas lay untapped online – and that you’re one of the first people to be using the data in this way.
I know – it’s freakin’ awesome, isn’t it!
Brent
P.S. – One more handy tip. Obviously you want markets with relatively high levels of traffic (because a site is worthless unless it has traffic!)
So when you’re picking potential niches, keep an eye on the Monthly Searches column inside this tool, and focus on keywords with several thousand searches per month (they’ll generally be at the top of the page).
P.P.S. – After I stopped the video, I looked at the results that Market Samurai found for that keyword – the keyword I picked at random.
I found 14 of the keywords Market Samurai found around that niche idea had over 200 searches per day (SEOT of 80 or above, PBR of 15% or above), and fewer than 30,000 competitors (SEOC).
Random. First one I picked. Blind.
Did I mention? …Freakin’ awesome.

Gee Brent, you are completely shaking your boobs over that Google Search-based keyword Tool!
And again jumping on it as a hungry rabbit on a fresh cabbage. I just feel it’s a matter of time when google cuts off third-party access to their keyword research tools and as all you SEO apps developers are sooo dependan on them, you can then just tie up and start googling for other jobs/opportunities…

Anybody else noticed that there are a bunch of areas just completely missing? Just take a look – there’s no “business” category that I can see – so they’re happy with the Adwords investment there, I presume.
Methinks Big G is using this as a way of promoting new areas for people to create niche products and drive up Adwords revenues – neat strategy.
Great series of vids, by the way Brent – thanks.
Cheers,

Hi Guys,
You have some great tools and I really appreciate your willingness to share meaningful content. One of the things that’s puzzling to me is that when I do a search of a phrase (eg., in google advanced search) on a seemingly common phrase like “stock market”, at the top of the search results, Google says, “78,500,00 for stock market”. So my question is, it’s somewhat misleading from a marketing standpoint to think that I’m competing against 78.5 million pages. Why you might ask? Because if I then click to the last possible page shown (my specs, 100 results per page), which is page 10, I actually find out that there are only 791 actual search results for the term! Insight and marketing relevance much appreciated.
Great question! – Although Google does have 78,500,000 results for the keyword, it will only show up to 1,000 of them because it knows that very few people will look at results 1,000 deep (normally they’ll find what they need sooner), and the computer processing time is substantial if they want to go further. And this is where it becomes a numbers game. If you just want to be in the top 1,000 results for a keyword in Google, and there are 78.5 million sites mentioning that keyword, you need to be in the top 0.12% of results (better than 99.88% of all other results – if my math is correct) just to get into the top 1,000 places. But if you’re looking at a keyword with 30,000 competitors, you only need to be in the top 3% (easier). Or 10,000 competitors, the top 10%. Or 1,000 competitors, you only need to mention the word and you’re in. – Brent

That was really excellent. Maybe another tidbit for someone is to take the keyword and combine with ” and affiliate” in google search to find programs to match the keyword. In other words “keyword and affiliate”.
Nice tip! -Brent

Hi Brent,
Just wondering if I’m missing something here. I followed your sleeping bag example through but the numbers for related keywords in the Google Search-Based Keyword Tool are very different from those in Market Samurai. For example, the term “lightweight sleeping bag” shows 820 searches per month in the Google tool, while in Market Samurai, it shows 217 per day (which equals 6,510 searches per month.) That’s a very big difference. What am I missing here?
Gail said:
I’ve already seen the problem. My eyes were playing tricks on me. One term was actually the plural term, so the counts are very different. I can’t even get the non-plural version of the term to come up in the Google tool.
Got it
If you have this problem, also check your regional settings. Obviously you’ll get less traffic if you’re looking at a single country only, vs All Countries and Territories. This is a common reason for differences. -Brent

The reason I mention that is because with the initial tool suggested you are limited unless you have an ad words account. This link gives a lot more keywords. I do not do ad words myself as I have tried it before and from my experience unless you really know what you are doing and monitor it regularly you can get burned. I did…thus I didn’t know what I was doing. So just thought I would throw this out there.
